FAO Schwarz - Window displays

Challenge

Dreamworks and Universal Pictures took over the 11-large scale windows of the prestigious Manhattan location of FAO Schwartz to promote their film Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. The windows needs to bring images from the film to life using fabricated cutouts and texture, but the windows are less than 3ft. deep!

Solution

LA-based Midnight Oil fabricated a mixture of 2D and 3D characters and images to command attention on the busy sidewalks of Manhattan. They used multimedia to enhance the theme of the holidays by adding velvet hats with fur trim, and dimensionalized the characters to add depth to each window. Various print methods were utilized, including dye sublimation and digital printing, and the large characters were applied by hand with some measuring over 4ft. tall.

Results

Not only did the film get overwhelmingly positive reviews, but the themed windows were also a huge (literally) hit! The client was ecstatic with the results, and with our team who went the extra mile to create and install this eye-catching holiday display.
